Welcome to Banrai Baibun Elephant Farm

A family-run elephant farm in Surin, Thailand.

Home to 13 elephants and rooted in local spiritual tradition.

About Us

Banrai Baibun Elephant Farm is a family-run elephant farm located in Surin Province, in the Isaan region of northeastern Thailand. Currently, 13 elephants live here as part of the family. In this region, elephants have long been regarded not just as animals, but as sacred and spiritual beings, deeply intertwined with the local way of life. At our farm, we continue to honor this belief in how we care for our elephants. We also work in cooperation with veterinarians to provide basic medical support for elephants in the surrounding area, helping to ensure their ongoing health and wellbeing.

About Us

Activities

At Banrai Baibun Elephant Farm, visitors can experience peaceful, everyday moments with elephants. Activities may vary depending on the day, but often include:

  • Feeding the elephants
  • Helping with elephant bathing
  • Quiet observation of their daily life
  • Joining a local market trip to buy bananas, yams, and other food

We do not offer elephant shows or rides. Instead, we invite you to experience the simple, honest life shared between people and elephants in the Isaan region.

Elephants and Spiritual Life

In our community, elephants are deeply connected to local spiritual beliefs known as Packam a form of animism practiced in the Thatam Surin region of Thailand. This belief system is distinct from mainstream Buddhism and centers around the presence of protective spirits in nature, animals, and sacred objects.

In the Packam tradition, elephants are not just living beings—they are carriers of spiritual energy and are often seen as protectors and bringers of fortune. Each elephant at Banrai Baibun Elephant Farm is respected as a sacred presence, and their care is guided by rituals, offerings, and a deep sense of ancestral duty.

Visitors are invited to learn about this unique cultural relationship, where caring for elephants is both a daily practice and a spiritual calling.
